Research Outlines and Summaries for Speech Therapists
We are excited to introduce a new and valuable feature for our Premium Community members: detailed outlines and summaries of current research articles in speech therapy.
This addition aims to make complex academic research accessible and actionable for busy therapists, which can help you easily stay informed and enhance your practice.
Why Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Research Matters
Staying current with the latest research is crucial for any speech-language pathologist (SLP). Research is an important pillar of evidence-based research and provides the base for effective clinical practices, helping therapists deliver the best care to their clients. However, the sheer volume of new studies can be overwhelming. Additionally, knowing where to find the research, understanding it, and implementing newly learned techniques into sessions can also be difficult to juggle on top of an existing caseload and clinical responsibilities.
Our new Premium Community feature simplifies this by distilling essential information into concise, easy-to-understand outlines with summaries.
Introducing the Read the Research Space Within the Premium Community Membership
Our Read the Research space is designed to provide you with clear and concise outlines of the latest research articles. Each outline will include:
- Title: Easily identify the topic at a glance.
- Read this if you are a therapist who…: Understand the article's relevance to your practice, such as seeking more parent/caregiver buy-in for AAC.
- Also related to…: Links provided to note overlapping clinical areas (e.g., if there is a research outline within the Adult Language 🧠 post that also overlaps with another clinical area, such as Cultural Responsiveness 🌏, it will be indicated).
- Link to the article: Direct access to the full text for those who want to dive deeper*.
- Author(s): Recognize the experts behind the research.
- Journal/publication & year: Know where and when the research was published.
- Summary & findings: A single paragraph that recaps the main parts of the study.
- APA citation: Proper citation for referencing in your own work.
- Implications/how to apply in treatment: Practical tips on how to integrate the findings into your therapy sessions.
*There will be direct links to every article. Most linked articles are free to view and/or available through ASHAWire (an archive of literature for communication sciences and disorders included with an ASHA membership; sign-in is required).
